Do you like where you live?

Derbyshire countryside

A couple of days ago I had to drive from my home in the north-west all the way to Lincolnshire and back again. Yeah, it was a very long day but all for a very good reason.

If you've ever done that journey you'll know that you have to drive through some of the most beautiful countryside including Cheshire, Derbyshire and the stunning Peak District, Nottinghamshire and finally Lincolnshire.

Ahh, beautiful Lincolnshire. There's just something about it that I've fallen in love with. The flatness of the land makes the skies look huge, and the odd windmill and old church just adds to its charm. I'm more used to the rolling hills of the Lake District or north Wales, so it's quite a novelty to see miles and miles of fields without very much to break up the horizon.

Lincolnshire

I'm very proud of my northern heritage, but the industrial north-west is not the most picturesque of places and since both of my parents passed away a few years ago I've felt a real yearning to move away.  It was only my daughters' ties to their friends and paternal grandparents that made me stay, but the desire is still very strong.

I'd love to start again somewhere new. To move somewhere prettier, quieter, away from traffic and industrial noise pollution, perhaps near to the sea. I'd love to be able to step out of my door and be inspired by the view, or even to live somewhere that doesn't require a special trip to be somewhere scenic. Maybe one day when the girls are older and have left home, maybe then.

But I wonder, if you live in an area of natural beauty do you take it for granted after a while or does it continue to nourish the soul on a daily basis? Needless to say I'm having serious location envy (that's a real thing, right?) of anyone who lives somewhere like that.

So, my question is: do you like where you live?
